Name: Patch, Breed: Labradoodle, Date of Birth: April 10th 2023, Owner: Louise Farrow-Brookes, Residence: Collier Row Essex.

Patch is a loving and gentle Labradoodle, serving as the cherished well-being therapy dog in training for Fledgelings Day Nursery, Patch has become an integral part of the nursery’s, bringing joy, comfort, and a sense of security to the children and staff alike.

From a young age, Patch exhibited a calm demeanour and a remarkable ability to connect with children. At home he helps support his human brother as the youngest child in his family has swerve autism and anxiety he is a new friend for the older child who’s has had to deal with his younger brother changing and almost becoming disconnect from him. Recognising these qualities, his owner, Louise Farrow-Brookes, decided to train her as a therapy dog specifically for the nursery environment. Patch underwent behaviour training to ensure he could interact safely and positively with young children. His training included socialisation, obedience, to balance to the needs of a nursery setting.

Patch's primary role at Fledgelings Day Nursery is to provide emotional support and companionship to the children. His presence helps to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, where children feel safe and comforted. Patch’s gentle and fun nature and patience make him the perfect companion for children who may be experiencing anxiety, worry and nerves towards animals or adjusting to the nursery environment. When at the nursery setting his owner is often asked by children an parents and staff “ Is Patch in today”.

When its Patch’s Day at the nursery, or he is popping in for a visit to any of our settings it is filled with various activities that promote interaction and bonding with the children. he enjoys listening to storytime sessions, participating in outdoor play, and simply being there for a comforting pat or cuddle when needed. Patch also helps in teaching children about empathy, kindness, and responsibility through his daily interactions. He also loves nothing more than finding a cosy place in the office to have a nap.

Since joining Fledgelings Day Nursery, Patch has made a significant positive impact. His calming presence has been especially beneficial for children with special needs and those who are shy or anxious. Patch has helped many children feel more at ease and confident in the nursery environment. He also brings joy and warmth to the staff team, often following them especially to the staff room at break time…Patch’s contributions have been widely recognized, and he has become a beloved member of the nursery community. Parents have expressed their gratitude for the positive influence Patch has on their children, noting improvements in emotional well-being, and happiness when coming to nursery. Patch is always being supported in re accruing training programmes, there is always something new to learn.

When not at the nursery, Patch enjoys a loving home life with Patch and his family. He loves going for long walks, playing with his friend dogs in his local park, running free in local forests, and lounging in the garden. Patch loves the seaside and getting wet whenever he can and eating the odd doggy ice-cream.

Patch is more than just a support dog; He is a beloved member of the Fledgelings Day Nursery family. His ability to bring comfort, joy, and a sense of well-being to the children and staff is invaluable.
