Salma Khodabaksh

Salma was born with a love for numbers and technology, which led her to pursue a degree in Mathematics followed by a Master's in Information Technology. Her academic excellence and dedication earned her a prestigious role as a Database Administrator (DBA) at a leading bank in the City of London.

However, life took a transformative turn with the birth of her fourth child, Mariyam. Salma realised the importance of balancing a successful career with spending quality time with her family. Determined to find a path that offered flexibility while allowing her to be there for her children, she ventured into an entirely new field—childcare.

In 2002, without any prior experience in childcare, Salma took a bold step by purchasing a going concern known at the time as Upminster Day Nursery. Driven by her passion for creating a nurturing environment for children, she completed her Level 3 qualification in childcare. Her dedication and vision transformed the nursery, now known as Fledgelings Day Nursery (Hornchurch), into a beloved and respected establishment.

Salma's entrepreneurial spirit did not stop there. She soon acquired another nursery in Romford, which she renamed Fledgelings Day Nursery (Romford). Her commitment to providing high-quality childcare and fostering family values has led to the expansion of her business. Today, Salma oversees four nursery sites, maintaining the essence of a family-run operation.

Managing a team of 90 dedicated educators, with the support of her Area Manager, Louise Farrow-Brookes, Salma ensures that each nursery under her care adheres to the highest standards of childcare. Her journey from a DBA in a bustling city bank to a successful entrepreneur in the childcare industry is a testament to her adaptability, resilience, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
